There’s a snazzy way to spruce up your Facebook page. You can add a video as the cover image! It makes a noticeable difference, I think. I uploaded one yesterday and would prefer not to go back to a static image.
Sometimes the option to add a video is available and sometimes it’s not. The editing icon on the cover image switches between a camera and a video camera. The video option appeared on my page early on, then disappeared. It suddenly appeared yesterday so I quickly uploaded a video. The video is short in duration and loops, playing continuously. You can see it in action on my page:
Here’s the actual video:
Dimensions: 820 x 312
Length: 20 – 90 seconds
It’s an absolute requirement to have the video be at least 20 seconds long. I tried to upload one that was shorter and Facebook declined it. If it’s not, you’ll see the following error message. Also, forget the “820 x 462” size. I uploaded one that size and it was skewed and couldn’t really be fixed. Set your video dimensions at 820 x 312.
To add a video for a Facebook page cover image
1. Cover image > video icon. This might not be available on your page. It comes and goes. If it’s not visible, check your page periodically.
2. Select: Upload Photo/Video.
3. Upload your video and review the positioning. When ready, publish it.
